On July 4, photos showed at least a foot of water across residential streets near Ridgeland Avenue and Timber Ridge Road by Matteson. On July 27, more standing water filled streets in town.
July 4 stands out. At 6:15 PM CDT, a flash flood report placed water about 2 miles west-southwest of Matteson: Flooding of multiple residential streets near Ridgeland Avenue and Timber Ridge Road near Matteson. Inundation estimated at least 1 foot deep extending across sidewalks and into yards.
More than half of Matteson’s homes were built in 1990 or later. Street flooding that deep tests sump pumps and finished basements.
